Project Spotlight: Patterns on La Prada (Copy)
Welcome to our Pattern on La Prada home tour! This home was one of my all time favorite projects to work on, not only because the clients are delightful but also because we really got to flex our creative talent by mixing and matching so many different colors and patterns throughout the house! Let’s get started with this moody sitting room shall we?
Given that this sitting room was going to be a bit more formal than the family room we decided to paint it in a more moody, sophisticated color - Farrow & Ball Card Room green. I absolutely love the way the charcoal velvet chesterfield sofa pairs with the wall color to bring a touch of masculinity to the space. We accented the room with a mix of antique pieces to give that “lived in” feel to the space and then spiced things up with mustard draperies and accent pillows in Katie Ridder’s Peony fabric.
Across the entry from the sitting room is the dining room. This space was originally meant to be the formal living room, but we made it the dining in order to fit a larger table for hosting… and turned the previous dining space into the sitting room for a smaller, more intimate feel.
The name of the game in here was all about color! The walls are covered in a pale blue grasscloth (it looks gray in photos, but is much more blue in person) and we accented it by painting the trim in Farrow & ball Oval Room Blue (used elsewhere in the house). This blue color was intentionally selected to coordinate with the floral wallpaper in the entry. Anchoring the space is a custom oversized sideboard painted in Benjamin Moore Narragansett Green. We added some cheerful whimsey to the space by doing pom-pom lamps on the buffed, Commissioned abstract art by Kayce Hughes over the mantle and added custom grasscloth-backed intaglios from Sweet Home by SCD.
The entry and powder bath are small but mighty spaces in this home! The back hallway leading to the powder and the kitchen is narrow and small… but it is also the heart of this home - so we based the whole design of this space around this Alex Conroy floral grasscloth wallpaper. The bright rattan console in a custom color (Acanthus by Sherwin Williams) draws your eye down the hall and brings a fresh take on a more classic inspired piece.
The kitchen was already beautiful when my clients bought this home… so we didn’t overhaul it much. We added brass cabinet hardware in an effort to make the hardware pop against the stained wood cabinets more And swapped the island pendants for brass ones and had custom pleated drum shades made as a statement piece for the room. Since the formal dining room is right off of the kitchen, we went for a more casual, cute feel in the breakfast nook by using a simple painted table and making custom scalloped skirts for the dining chairs.
In the family room we knew that we wanted some subtle pops of color as well as LOTS of comfortable seating. We selected a rust-colored linen for the chaise lounged and brought the same fabric from the kitchen island pendants into this room in the form of an ottoman paired with the swivel chairs. Remember that Farrow & Ball Ova Room Blue from the dining room trim? Well, that is what we used to paint the existing built ins AND the existing lanterns in the ceiling (which were previously a more gothic-style rustic iron if you can believe that?). By adding a layered rug, a mix of pillow patterns and LOTS of accessories from our Sweet Home Collected category we have this room a lot of personality.
This girls room was so much fun to design. We based most of the room off of the drapery fabric by Galbraith & Paul. We pulled the blue color on the trim from the subtle blue in the fabric and also revisited the yellow in the custom bookcase-turned-nightstand. Then we accented all of the blue, green and yellow with. some pink bedding because what whimsical girls room is complete without a little pop of pink? These oversized scalloped baskets made for the perfect (and functional) piece at the foot of the twin beds.
We hope you loved touring this home as much as we did designing it! It’s always exciting when a client is willing to trust our vision and let us really stretch our creativity in their home.
