Rattan Roundup

Every year around this time I start itching for the spring to come already… so naturally I start dreaming of light, airy interiors which always leads me to think about rattan pieces. I don’t know about you, but I love to incorporate rattan items into my designs regardless of the season. From chairs, to baskets to coffee tables to planters and accessories there are so many fun ways to bring these gorgeous, natural items into your home! In fact, the chair that I am sitting in as I write this post is rattan! Although, rattan pieces can (and do) make me think of warmer seasons, they aren’t only meant for beach houses and summer homes.

One trick of the trade that I say time and again is that you don’t need to add color to your home in order to add interest to your space. Obviously, i am not opposed to color (i.e. the custom blue media cabinet that I designed for a beach house client last spring - see photo above) but I do come across clients often that love neutrals but get worried about their home being too boring. Typically, in those conversations I end up telling them that is it “ok, to love neutrals - don’t force color if it’s not your thing” and we chat about how to add depth to their home by incorporating varying textures instead. (I’ll write a full blog post on this at a later date - promise).

Anyway, one of my favorite ways to incorporate new texture is to use natural pieces like rattan. it is not only gorgeous, but also affordable, durable and timeless- what more could you want?!

In short….Rattan is amazing and -in my opinion- should be part of every home! Here are a few of my favorite rattan pieces to help you get your collection started. There are SO MANY good options! Enjoy!
