Here at Sarah Catherine Design and Sweet Home by SCD, we LOVE to make a house feel like a home. First, let’s talk lighting. Lamps help bring such a cozy feel to a room. Lamp lighting compared to overhead lighting immediately makes a room feel peaceful and calm. I never turn on overhead lights in my home! I also recommend using warm white light bulbs compared to stark white bulbs. This helps bring such a nice warm glow to a room!

In addition to lamps, the soft glow and warm scent of a candle burning helps set a cozy ambiance in any room. Some of my favorites are pine scented candles that remind me of the outdoors, or vanilla scented candles that smell like winter. I also love candles with a wooden wick, which create a cozy crackling sound, much like a fire.

When I think of being cozy, the first thing that comes to mind is wrapping myself up in my favorite throw blanket! Draping a wool or textured throw over the arm of your sofa or lounge chair adds depth and warmth to a room. Layering throw blankets is the perfect way to bring comfort to your home. Another way to add coziness to a room, is implementing rugs throughout your home. The comfort of a soft rug under your bare feet adds warmth and softness to any room, where rooms without rugs tend to feel cold and hard.
