Project Spotlight: Equine Mountain

Allow me to proudly introduce one of my FAVORITE projects from the past year - Equine Mountain! This project was so much fun to work on not only because we had so much incredible inspiration to work with, but also because these clients are dear friends of our owner Sarah. There are so many unique finishes, textures, small details, big details and interesting focal points that we can’t wait to share with you. We hope you enjoy this tour as much as we loved building this home for our clients!

Moving into the great room… the showstopper is of course the grand stone fireplace! This room is right off of the kitchen and screen porch and also functions as the dining space… perfect for hosting! We custom built the walnut shelving to include a place for a record player and record storage. On the opposite side we had a custom iron inlay built to serve as firewood storage without damaging the wood of the built in.

The antlers over the fireplace were a “husband and wife” dispute that i mediated, ha! She was tired of taxidermy from their hunting camp (understandable) and he felt like the fireplace NEEDED some (hey, i get that too). So I came up with the idea to mount one of his trophies as just antlers with a velvet skull cap to match the velvet wing chair - and everyone wins!

As I mentioned above, the dining space is toward the back of the great room. We found a live edge teak table and stained it to match the walnut built ins. We also found some antique chairs to dress up. We had those recovered in leather and matched the plaid from the oversized arm chair to the backs of the host chairs so that those stand out.

Let me gush about the kitchen next! My clients are passionate about hosting at their home, so a full chef’s kitchen was in store, however, my client specifically asked for something ”new”. We painted the cabinets a moody color by Farrow & Ball (Inchra Blue) and carried that into the wet bar as well. The pantry got a full “Beauty and the Beast” style library ladder with rail so that all 10’ of the ceiling height could be utilized. The counters were made from an exotic marble to accent the moody cabinet color. And the best part… the window over the sink fully opened onto a snack bar on the porch for easy hosting and serving!

The wet bar was given a very similar design, but we added soapstone as the counters in order to set it apart from the main kitchen. We found some GORGEOUS antique pine doors and had our builder adjust the house framing to accommodate those as a focal point leading into the wife’s office.

Our client LOVES to read… so storage was the name of the game. Not only did she need space to work and store a printer, but we also added plenty of bookshelves to house artwork, accessories, and of course books! We lined the back of the bookcases in a powder blue grasscloth and did the same detail on the paneling on the desk.

With such high ceilings, it was a bit of a challenge to make this large master bedroom feel cozy. We went with an extra tall headboard in order to draw the eye upward and did a coffered ceiling with pecky cypress inlay to break up the long ceiling. Adding a separate seating area by the fireplace set the room into 2 zones, which added a level of comfort and coziness.

The master bath is another favorite spot in the house! My client fell in love with this beautiful calacatta viola marble, so we knew we had to use as much of it as we could! We framed out not only the curb, but the jambs of the glass shower and did a waterfall bench in the center - all out of this beautiful marble. We went with a more simple limestone and a two-tone handmade subway tile on the shower walls in order to accent the stone but not distract from it.

An office fit for a true cowboy! Fully paneling an office out of walnut is not for the faint of heart. Countless hours went into drawing and specifying all of the details to accommodate the paneling to make sense with the windows and the built-in shelving (not shown) but we think the hard work was worth it!

We love this cheeky little dog bone detail in the floor of the dog bath… the tile installers were not quite as into it, ha!

This screen porch might be the most used space in the home! Here you can see how the kitchen bi-fold windows open up onto the snack bar by the seating area and makes for a PERFECT spot for watching football games. In the center of this porch sits a grand dining table to seat 10. And what porch would be complete without an oversized swing bed?

We truly love this home and these clients. We hope that you have enjoyed getting a peek into our hard work as much as we had creating it!

Xo, Sarah
